RESULTS

The results of the testing show that the device constructed is an improvement on current market offerings when it comes to the amount of abrasion damage caused to the rope during standard load cycles. When compared to a micro traxion, the benchmark device. The constructed device caused 50% less sections of the rope sheath to be visibly damaged. The second test was to determine the forced required to move the device up the rope while ascending a rope. The constructed device averaged 6.4 pounds, this is above the predicted value of six pounds and it due to geometry that is not optimized in the ascenders design. There is also a factor that is the ascenders high weight. The ascender is four times heavier than a benchmark device, the ascender was not constructed to be lightweight but rather to be a proof of concept so weight optimization is a secondary goal that would be looked at once the primary function is considered satisfactory.

Further testing may be conducted after a device redesign.
